Changelog
What's new
We regularly update Tidings. Check out what's new, better and what embarrassing mistakes we fixed below! You can also follow this changelog as a feed in your feed reader of choice Tidings.
- New We've added a new source type you can use for your publications! This is the biggest item in this release, since you're now able to follow general news topics about anything that interests you, and receive a 3-5 paragraph summary on it. Right now, it's limited to 50ish general topics, but we'll be adding the ability to create custom topics at some point.
- New We've improved our onboarding for new users, and surface the device you want to read on before anything else.
- New We now ask for your nickname during onboarding. We want the service to feel personal, and throughout the app and emails, we'll use this name when referring to you. You can change it in Settings.
- Improvement We've updated our Instapaper integration so that we're using their new API. Previously you had to enter your username and password to connect. No longer!
- Improvement Instapaper got additional love in this release. If for some reason we aren't able to deliver your publication to Instapaper, we let you know, and pause your publication.
- Improvement At work, many policies implement mail scanning technologies which kill magic links because those scanners access the email first. To fight against this, we now keep the sign-in links themselves active for 15 minutes.
- Improvement Reply to any publication of yours sent via email, and a human being will see it and help you out.
- Improvement We've updated the privacy policy and terms page to let you know that you'll hear from us before any pricing changes.
- Improvement Picking an email style to use for your publications is much simpler and shows a preview of the dark and light colour themes.
- Improvement All errors, whenever they happen in the app, now show in a banner above the publication. This is so that you know what broke and how to fix it, such as needing to reconnect an integration.
- Fix There were problems with loading non-latin characters in URLs. Embarrassing, but fixed.
- Fix Bluesky accounts that have very long names for some reason no longer break the UI.
- New We now email you to tell you that something broke with your publications. To avoid being spammy we'll only do it once.
- New When you pause a publication, we now actually show that it's paused. Useful!
- New Fall is the season of colours... You can now customize your publications with five new colourful themes. Forest, Plum, Raspberry, Carrot and Blueberry. I may or may not have been hungry while naming these.
- New Dark mode is now also an option for each theme, along with an option to just respect your system preferences. Many email providers still ignore this setting though, so Gmail will continue to happily blind you at night.
- Improvement We've consolidated some of the branding across the main website and the app.
- Improvement Instead of a hard-to-read list, your publications are now neatly sorted into cards and provide information at a glance.
- Improvement We're experimenting with keeping each source you add to a publication on a single line in the UI itself. This should make it easier to reason about the order.
- Improvement When adding a feed to your publication, we now highlight the text that was typed within the feed name or URL itself. This should make it easier to see what you're doing.
- Improvement You're now able to schedule your publication to generate new editions at any time of day, rounded to the 15 minute mark. Flexibility!
- Fix It's no longer possible to add the same feed twice.
